Over the past few weeks we have discussed many of the ways Jesus sets us free. We’ve talked about how Jesus not only sets us free from sin, but also gives us the freedom to be thankful in all situations, freedom to live a life of boldness, and be exactly who he created us to be. Today, we are going to talk about the best aspect of freedom found in Jesus: we are free to choose him!

God will always give you the choice to follow him. We see this all through the Bible. From Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to the Great Tribulation, God has always and will always give people the choice to serve him or serve themselves.

God Gave Adam and Eve A Choice

When God created Adam and Eve, he created them with the choice to stay in a perfect relationship with their creator. They had a choice to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree and disobey God, or refrain from eating from that single tree and obey their Father. Of course, eventually Satan came and enticed them to eat the forbidden fruit, and thus they came out of a perfect relationship with their Father.

God Will Always Give A Choice

During the time of the Great Tribulation (as described in Revelation) God is still giving people the choice to change their minds and surrender to him. I did a study on Revelation a few years ago. The leader pointed out that the purpose of each hardship will be to draw people to the Father. It will still be his desire to add to his kingdom, even after the rapture of the church. Jesus so wants everyone to live with him, he is willing to allow people to feel the consequences of not following him.

God Gave The Israelites A Choice

In Deuteronomy we learn God even gave the Israelites the choice between following him and living a life of blessing, or rejecting him and living a life of curses. “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:19‬ (‭NLT)‬‬

God desperately wanted the Israelites to choose life and blessings. He desired to bless them, protect them, and give them and their descendants an abundant life. The same goes for you today. God wants to give you blessings of life, protection, and a long line of descendants who also live an abundant life. He is asking you right now, what do you choose? Do you choose life or death, blessing or curses? I pray you choose life and blessings!

God Gives You A Choice

“For he (Jesus) has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.” Colossians‬ ‭1:13-14, 21-23‬ ‭(NLT)‬‬ (emphasis added)

When we choose to surrender our whole life to Jesus, he takes us from being a member of Satan’s dark kingdom, to a member of his perfect, beautiful kingdom. We then have the responsibility to choose to stand firmly and believe the truth that we are blameless and without a single fault. We have the freedom to be in his presence whenever we want. When we are in the presence of God, we have the privilege of experiencing true freedom.

We Have The Freedom To Choose

This is where we are free from all sin. We are free to be who God created us to be, and can be thankful no matter what may be going on in our physical life. It is through the power of the blood of Jesus we are free from sin, free to be thankful in all circumstances, free to be bold, and free to be exactly who Jesus created us to be. Let’s go out there and show a lost, dying, and confused world what true freedom looks like!
