Everything begins with Jesus. He is the Alpha and Omega (in Greek), the Aleph and Tav (in Hebrew), the A to Z (in English). He is the beginning and the ending and everything in between. What’s in between the letters A & Z? The whole rest of the alphabet. That’s why Jesus is the living Word, or the Word made flesh (John 1:14).

Where does it say in the Bible that Jesus is the Alpha and Omega? In the very last chapter in the book of Revelation, you know, the book that’s actually called, The Revelation of Jesus Christ. It is a divine revelation that Jesus is Alpha and Omega.

Jesus speaking: 12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:12-13 (ESV)

Jesus is the first and the last. He is the beginning and the end. Everything originates in Him and ends with Him. He fills all things with Himself.

Someone may say, “Wait, I thought God the Father was described as Alpha and Omega.” That’s correct.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8 (ESV)

It follows that if both Jesus and the Lord God are Alpha and Omega, that Jesus and the Lord God are one and the same. Jesus is God. God is Jesus. Jesus even prayed “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you…” (John 17:21a ESV) Jesus is One with the Father.

Jesus the Creator

In fact, we learn from Colossians chapter 1 that through Jesus all things were created.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:15-16 ESV)

As a side note, when I was teenager, it was popular to think of the question, “What is the meaning of life?” as an unanswerable rhetorical question. But I remember writing in the margin of my Bible by Colossians 1:16: This is the meaning of life! We have the meaning of life, and it’s Jesus, through Jesus and for Jesus!

OK, back to creation: if you’ve never seen this before, this one is fun. Most people know Genesis 1:1 by heart:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (ESV)

But did you know that there are two untranslated Aleph-Tav’s in the original Hebrew? And who is the Aleph and Tav again? Yes, Jesus. If you add these in, the verse reads this way:

“In the beginning God created Aleph-Tav the heavens and Vav-Aleph-Tav the earth.”

In the beginning God through Christ created the heavens and the earth.

Now the second untranslated Aleph-Tav has the Hebrew letter Vav added to it, which looks like a nail and means to cut or pierce.

In the beginning God through Christ created the heavens and nailed them through Christ to the earth. And we know that the body of Jesus Christ was literally nailed to the cross, which was made of wood from a tree that had previously grown in the earth.

Jesus is God

Jesus is God. He is not a created being. He is not an angel that got promoted. Jesus is not the brother of Lucifer. He wasn’t just a prophet or a good teacher. He is THE Son of God. Jesus is God. Jesus is God!

Who do we say Jesus is?

It is imperative that we know and get the foundation right. The question that Jesus asked his disciples is a question we all must answer: who do we say that Jesus is? Who is He to us? Is He Savior? Is He Lord? Or is He some guy who’s name we just throw around like it means nothing?

Let’s see what else is said about Jesus in Colossians chapter 1

“And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:17-20 ESV)

Jesus is the foundation. We must first have a proper view of the True Lord Jesus and rid ourselves of the false views of who Jesus is that has been programmed into our thinking through trauma, false teachings, false religions, the world, etc.

Jesus Saves

“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:4-7 ESV)

Jesus saved us, and it wasn’t because of our good deeds. We don’t earn our way into His good graces. We receive the grace He offers by faith

“Let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead–by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:10-12 ESV)

Jesus is the Beginning and the Ending

The very foundation of all things true begin and end with Jesus. He is the beginning as the creator of all things. He is the ending when he rose from the dead and conquered death, hell, and the grave. You must decide for yourself who you say Jesus is. Is he who he says he is, or a created being just like you and me? If he is the creator, he is God for only God can create from nothing. If he was created, he is no better than you and I and can not be our savior. Only God can save us from the consequences of our sin, which leads to death. So I ask once again; who is Jesus? My answer is Jesus is the beginning and the end of all things. He is the creator. He is my savior. Jesus is God.
