Have you ever thought about God’s will? Have you ever thought about what God wants? This subject seems mysterious and ethereal, but it’s actually quite simple.

How do I know God’s will? Here’s an idea: How about we ask Him? How about we read from His Word?

As a side note, this is a follow-up to a previous blog post, “Living Out of the Overflow.”

The Healing of the Leprous Man

Do you remember what the leprous man said to Jesus in Mark 1:40? “If you will, you can make me clean.” Was it God’s will for this man to be healed? I believe Jesus answered that question, for him and for all of us.

And many of us have asked this same question to God, “Is it Your will that I be healed?”

“I will”

When given the choice using the words, “if you will,” Jesus answered, “I will.” Let that answer sink in for a minute. “I will.”

When we ask God, “Is it your will for me to be healed?” I believe the answer is, “I will. I will heal you. I will lead you on a healing journey for your soul, because your physical healing is tied to the healing of your soul.”

We see this over and over again in Scripture. The paralytic man needed forgiveness, and then his physical healing manifested before their very eyes. (See this post about the story in Mark 2:1-12.) The father of a demon-possessed child dealt with unbelief (Mark 9:14-29). A former sorcerer had to release his bitterness and get freedom from the bond of iniquity (Acts 8:9-25). Bartimaeus requested mercy from the Son of David (Jesus), and he had to want to be healed of his blindness (Mark 10:46-52).

The Vicious Lie

Now, it’s worth addressing a vicious lie. That lie is this: “God doesn’t want you to be healed.” It may come in various other packages, but it’s all pretty much the same. Someone might say, “Oh, God gave me this disease so I could learn x, y or z.” Or, “God is making me go through this because of all the evil I did earlier in my life.”

Some people think God says something like this, “My will is for you to be healed, but I guess somehow you fell through the cracks into some special loophole. Sorry, I guess you’re disqualified.”

Let me tell you: you’re not disqualified from healing. Healing is available for your body, for your soul, and for your spirit. His desire for you is to see you completely whole, enjoying the “shalom” or peace and wholeness of His Presence.

Hard to Understand

You might say to me, “This is hard to understand.” It is exactly why Jesus went around preaching and teaching, saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Repenting is changing your mindset. It’s throwing out the old belief and taking on a new belief. Paul talks about the same thing in Romans 12.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)

In order to discern the amazing will of God, the will that is good and acceptable and perfect, we must have our minds renewed. This is a transformational process, a process that takes our caterpillar minds and transforms them into butterfly minds through metamorphosis.

God’s Will for Us is Healing

When we are convinced that God’s will for us is healing, the most profound good, to walk in His righteous ways, to pour out His Spirit, to experience His love and joy in new and amazing ways, then we start overflowing. His Spirit pouring into us and bleeding out of us becomes evident to everyone around us.

People start asking where we get all the joy. They get attracted to the peace of Christ in our hearts.

People entrenched in religion and in the religious spirit start getting exposed, and it either leads to repentance or lashing out. God desires, just like he desired for the priests in Jesus’ day, for them to see the proof of His Kingdom come.

God, may Your Kingdom come and Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. In other words, God, may Your Kingdom fill me up and overflow out of me to positively affect the world around me with your goodness, grace, love and mercy.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to operate out of the Overflow of Your Holy Spirit. I desire to be and live just like Jesus did, having Your Kingdom pour out of the gates of my life.

I believe Your will for my life is healing. Help me to believe and also get rid of any unbelief! Reveal any lies I’ve believed; I renounce those lies and believe the truth. Show me the truth according to Your Word and Your will.

I desire healing for my body, my soul, and my spirit. Take me on the healing journey, Lord, I’m ready for the journey. I’m ready for healing. Transform my mind, Lord, and help me to discern what Your will is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. I believe Your will is good, and that You intend it for my good.

Father God, speak to my heart by Your Holy Spirit. Bless the words which I just read. May they be spiritual seeds in my life springing up to abundant life. Continue working in me and through me, and continue to pour Your Spirit upon my life, and may Your Kingdom and Your glory pour out of my life. Let Your light shine in my heart, and may others see Your light in me and bring You praise and honor and glory. In Jesus’ Name, amen!
