We have been talking about Jesus as the Aleph Tav, the beginning and the ending, the Alpha and Omega. I explained to you what the Aleph Tav means, and how we see it in Genesis 1:1.
Today we are going to conclude and begin talking about the Aleph Tav in Creation.
Creation of the Sun, Moon, & Stars
In verses 14-16 of Genesis 1, the Lord creates the sun, moon and stars, as part of Creation Day 4. Let’s read, and I will add in the multiple uses of aleph tav in this verse.
“And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs [lamedh aleph tav tav] and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.’ And it was so.
And God made the [aleph tav] two great lights – the [aleph tav] greater light to rule the day and the [vav aleph tav] lesser light to rule the night–and [vav aleph tav] the stars.” Genesis 1:14-16 (ESV)
Using what we just learned in Genesis 1:1, we see that the lights in the expanse of the heavens are for covenantal signs.
The lamedh means “to teach” or “a sign,” and then you have aleph tav, the strength of the covenant through Jesus, and then another tav, indicating either a second covenant or emphasizing the first covenant. I think either of those are accurate, and most likely both are.
“Let them be as a sign to teach you about the covenants through Jesus Christ, both the old and the new.”
We also see Jesus involved in making the sun and moon through the strength of His covenant. And he bridges or nails the sun to the moon as well as to the stars. They are not just connected as we think of in terms of astronomy, gravity, and orbits. But the heavenly bodies are also connected spiritually through covenant, through Jesus Himself.
This is important to realize, that the sun, moon, and stars are not just physical things floating in space. They have spiritual connotations; they have spiritual meaning and influence.
Why else does Psalm 19 start out by saying,
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalm 19:1 (ESV)
The heavens are declaring, or at least they are capable of declaring the glory of God. The heavens have a voice. They are part of the strength of the covenant through Jesus Christ.
This might be one reason that the stars and constellations are used in pagan rituals and worship of idols. It’s because they’re not just physical entities; they’re spiritual. And they have a voice that speaks.
The Sign
Now let’s go back to the lamedh aleph tav tav, the teaching of the sign of the covenants through Jesus.
We see this word show up in the book of Exodus, during the Lord’s instruction to Moses about the Passover.
“The blood [of the lamb] shall be a sign [lamedh aleph tav] for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the [aleph tav] blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.” Exodus 12:13 (ESV, brackets mine)
So the blood of the lamb is a sign to teach the children of Israel about the covenant through Jesus, the ultimate sacrificial lamb.
And when the Lord sees the aleph tav blood, the strength of the covenant through the blood of Jesus, His wrath passes over us.
He will not count our sins against us, because of the blood of the new covenant through Jesus Himself.
This, my friends, is one of the incredible revelations of the aleph tav in the Old Testament. It was there all along. Jesus was right there in the Scriptures just waiting to be discovered by the children of Israel and anyone else who would open their minds to receive the Messiah, and the words written about the Messiah.
Conclusion
Remember one of the verses we looked at the very beginning? I didn’t show you the aleph tav in the middle of it… so here it is:
“Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD, the first, and [vav aleph tav] the last; I am he.” Isaiah 41:4 (ESV)
The Lord is the first, the beginning, and through the bridge of Jesus Christ and the strength of the covenant, He is the last, the ending, and He is God over all.
Prayer
Lord God, we thank You for the revelation of the aleph tav. Thank You for the strength of the covenant through Jesus Christ, for our salvation. Even as Jesus’ name in Hebrew means salvation, we trust in Jesus Christ for our salvation, today and every day afterwards!
Heavenly Father, we invite the Living Letters of Jesus Christ, starting with aleph and ending with tav to resonate inside of us with the Heavenly frequencies of the Word, who is Jesus Himself. Please bring revelation to us through Your great and holy Word, and would you please pop these revelations off the pages of Your word as we read and meditate and study.
Thank You for being far greater and far smarter and far better than we have ever given You credit for. Forgive us Lord and give us grace to understand. We want to be the Church who trusts in You with our whole hearts. As your Church, we don’t want to lean on our own understanding, but we want to rely on the Spirit of Understanding. We want to acknowledge You in all of our ways, and we’re so appreciative of You, that you guide us on the right path, Your path for us.
May we join with the sun, moon and stars and declare the glory of God and proclaim Your handiwork, as it says in Psalm 19. May our hearts overflow with the joy of the Holy Spirit as You have sealed Your Holy Covenant with us by the blood of Jesus, deep, deep in our hearts.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being the bridge from Heaven to earth, the house of God, and the gate of Heaven. Make a bridge in us from our hearts to Heaven, and may Your goodness and mercy flow from Heaven straight into our hearts. And may we never be the same, and may this world never be the same, as the Heavenly things are released from our hearts to the world.
You are truly great and greatly to be praised. We honor You today, Lord God. You are the one who is, who was, and who is to come. You are truly the first and the last; there is none besides You, O Lord. And we are Your sons; we are Your body; we are your righteous saints, covered by the blood of Jesus and brought into Your everlasting covenant. We appreciate this; we marvel at this; we are so grateful for this. Lord God, You are good. And we praise You today. In the Name of Jesus, amen!
