Welcome back to week three of our study on your sphere of influence, or metron. We looked at the fact that everyone in fact has a sphere of influence, and took a look at a few examples in the Bible with people imparting their metron to others.
This week we are going to discuss how to apply all of this information in our lives.
Application
Hopefully by now you’re convinced that a metron exists in the spiritual realm, and it gives you the ability to influence other people and in turn, other people’s metrons are influencing you.
Who is Influencing You?
So the first application question is this: who is influencing you with their metron? Who are you spending time listening to? You will become like them.
Are you listening to primarily vulgar and secular music, watching worldly movies and TV shows, going to bars and strip clubs, and hanging out with people who do not honor God with their lives? Then don’t be surprised when you start acting like them, and that the problems, and demons, that they deal with become your problems and your demons to deal with.
Bad company corrupts good morals – you’re coming under the influence of another’s metron. The agreement here is important.
On the flip side, perhaps you are searching something out in the Scriptures and want to learn more about some spiritual gift. Search out someone who is gifted in this area and learn from them. Study their lives and their writings or videos. And you will see their spiritual giftings start manifesting in your life.
Maybe you’d like to be the CEO of a company some day. Seek out godly business mentors, who have been operating in this realm for years, and learn from them, and learn from their mistakes, and do the same things that they did to become successful, assuming it’s legitimate and Godly.
At the end of the day, you will be influenced by someone. And if you are not proactive in the people or ideologies that influence you, then it’s guaranteed that the world will influence and steer you in its ways.
Who are You Influencing?
The next application question is this: who are you influencing? Who are you discipling? Who are you pouring into?
Believe it or not, there are people in your life who are influenced by your metron, even if you’re not even aware of this happening. Many times, it’s your younger brother or sister, and definitely it’s your own children.
What sort of example do you want to set for the people who are being influenced by your life? Do you want them to see a Godly influence? Do you want them to see your life and grow closer to the Lord? Can you say that you want them to do and say what you do and say?
Your Metron in the Spiritual Realm
Your metron exists in the spiritual realm. And Jesus has given you a measure of authority in the spiritual realm. But it’s very good to know what the limits of your authority are in the spiritual realm.
The late John Paul Jackson has some very good teaching about what we should and should not be binding in the spiritual realm. He advises, and I agree with him, that we should not pray and bind up large territorial spirits or principalities or satan himself. This is like operating outside of our own metron, and these things are big and extremely powerful, and we don’t want to open ourselves up to more pain and suffering than is necessary in this life. So I’d suggest not praying in this way unless you’ve been given specific instructions by the Lord as well as have at least one or two other believers with you in prayer.
I want you to be aware that you are influencing others, and they are influencing you. Whatever you spend time doing or sitting under, even YouTube videos or movies or tv shows or books, the influence or metron of those things are being absorbed into your metron. Be thinking about what you are allowing to influence you and how you are influencing others.
